Change your Clocks, Change your batteries
Sat. Mar 7th 2009

The East Chilton Fire Department would like to remind everyone that as you set your clocks ahead 1 hour for Daylight Savings Time on 03/08/2009 to also change the batteries in your smoke detectors. This simple task could potentially save your life in the event of a fire in your home. Through March 5th, 2009 there have been 447 Residential Fire Fatalities reported by the Nation's news media. Working smoke detectors are proven life savers in the event of a fire in your home. You are also encouraged to test each of your smoke detectors once a month to ensure that they are functioning properly. Smoke detectors should, at a minimum, be placed in each sleeping area or room of the house and a detector on each floor. Other suggestions for placement of smoke detectors are in the kitchen area, and any attached garage area where vehicles, ATVs, or other motorized equipment is stored. If you have any questions about the placement of smoke detectors please contact us and we will assist you. You can also visit www.usfa.dhs.gov/citizens/focus/smoke_alarms.shtm for more information on smoke detectors.
